For all you minorities out there...

Does it sway your opinion of the company you're applying for to have the disclaimer "[so-and-so company] is an equal opportunity employer"? Aren't all companies equal opportunity employers now?

Well, I can see how it would have been needed when it was first required for people to be EOEs. I just don't see why it's needed to be posted so prominently now, after you know companies aren't allowed to discriminate. I can understand it being in the fine print somewhere...

When (if possible) nobody can remember why there was ever a need to make that distinction in the first place, it will then be confined to fine print and disregarded with a complacent shrug. Like the cancerous rat warning on some lemon-lime soda's.

Lemon lime sodas are cancerous to rats?

yeah, its some crazy shit. you should see some of the walls in my office, they are covered with shit that the government or ECOA (equal credit opportunity act; hence the mtg. industry) requires us to put up for public display. if we dont we get fined this crazy sick amount of money. there are just so many ppl out there that sue for whatever they can, sad that the government and corporations have to cover their asses like this.

it just gets worse fro here.

I suppose that's true, that they're not necessarily doing it to make sure potential employees know they'll get hired regardless of race/gender/whatever, they're probably doing it so that the stupid people who don't get hired don't decide it was because they were "different" and sue.
