Yikes!

When we got back from getting the oil changed and the groceries bought, the next-door neighbor caught us as we were getting ready to unlock our door and told us that her apartment had been broken into yesterday; and she wanted to know if we'd heard anything. It was sometime between 11am and 5pm, after they'd left and before I got home. She said they bashed in the front door and almost broke the frame, which gave before the deadbolt did. So I'm going to be locking the deadbolt and making sure the window is latched from now on. How scary. I'm just glad it wasn't our place! But their front door is barely 12 feet from ours. She said she thought they'd been casing her house (and therefore ours) because they knew when to come and they knew she had a couple of nice bikes, which is all they took. She said they also looked for jewelry but she hid it well so they didn't get it. Of course, they don't have a TV so they couldn't take it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they would have taken ours had they broken into our house. It's light; it wouldn't have been difficult to take. But it happened in the middle of the day, in the light, and nobody noticed. Yikes.
