Tin Can Wall Garden

I've seen this a couple of times, and I think I'd like to try it out sometime when I have a little more wall/fence space on the patio: a tin can wall garden. It looks like they used those big coffee cans, but I wonder if you could put just one little baby plant in a regular-sized can and still have it work.
